If you like to do more than sunbathe, read books or eat -- and if your perfect holiday includes a huge casino, schedules packed tight with enrichment activities, and silly pool games -- this is not the cruise for you. I was in the new Owner's Suite and stumbled on a few irritations -- nowhere to hang towels after use, too few electric plugs in the sitting/dining room -- but, overall, it was superb. I did hear moans from other passengers that there was no news channel on the TV. A full range of salon services - including hairstyling, manicures and pedicures - are available on board for both men and women.
All suites were updated with new carpeting, upholstery, curtains, headboards, new deluxe mattresses (custom-made exclusively for the Silversea company). All decked public areas were reconditioned (woodwork renovated, teak was polished). The ship's passenger capacity was reduced from 296 to 274. The Casino was replaced by Photo Studio and a Mudroom (expedition gear storage room) was added. The swimming pool was upgraded with a new water heating system. The 300-passenger ship Silver Wind is quite small, and it will take you a few minutes to work out “what-where”. The friendly atmosphere and Silversea Cruises all-inclusive drinks policy do a lot to get more selling points and promote friendliness, especially when you are cruising alone. However, if you’d like to do more than eat, read books and sunbathe, and if the perfect holiday for you includes a huge casino, silly pool games, and aimless “enrichment activities”, Silver Wind is not the ship for you. The 1995-built MS Silver Wind cruise ship is the second oldest vessel owned by Silversea Cruises.

Tucked away on Deck 5, Dolce Vita is located below the Show Lounge and is rarely crowded. Silversea has a mixture of formal, informal and smart-casual dress codes. For formal nights, women should wear cocktail dresses, evening gowns or trouser suits, men should have tuxedos or dark suits. Informal means dresses or trouser suits for the ladies, jackets for the men (ties optional). Our 11-night cruise had three formal nights, four informal nights and four smart-casual evenings.
